Hello there,

My name is Bryan and this website is to help log and showoff my first nano-reef setup. I am using the MiniBow 2.5 gallon tank by AGA which cost me about $30 at Wal-Mart. The light is a Compact 50/50 9watt bulb purchased at a Local Fish Store (LFS) for almost $10. I used the existing filter pump, minus the filter for a powerhead. And I also bought a heater for the setup.

I am using the Instant Ocean mix to make my saltwater. I try to mix it so that the salinity is around 1.028ppt. I keep the tank running at 80 degrees. I have 2.5lbs of Live Fiji cured rock. And 2lbs of live sand.

After 2 weeks I purchased a Clownfish. Even though I was told that this is cruel to do I plan on putting the fish in my friends larger tank after it grows.

I have to add normal (distilled) water to the tank once a week because of evaporation...(the salt does not evaporate so there is no need to mix salt)

After a month the algae in my tank was overwhelming and ugly so I purchased an Emerald Crab. He cleaned the tank up in a matter of days and its beautiful.

After successfully keeping the tank alive for over 2 months I decided that it was time to add some color to the tank. Unfortunately because of my college life, I only could scrounge up a few bucks to by a small colony of Brown Polyps. They've been in there for about 3 days and they are growing already.
